SEPA Environmental REview

UWMC Expansion Project – Capital Projects is in the process of developing a Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement which will be issued in the spring of 2008.  The project involves construction of a new facility which would be constructed in three phases and total approximately 230,000 gross square feet (gsf) of building area.  The new facility would be used to house space for diagnostic imaging, surgery, the nursing units and neonatal intensive care unit.

Phase I would include the construction of a five-story structure totaling approximately 113,000 gsf of area that would be linked to the existing UWMC on all floors.  The building height would be approximately 66 feet to the top of the 5 th floor and approximately 78 feet to the top of the roof top mechanical screen.  Phase I would also include new landscaping along NE Columbia Road and in other areas impacted by construction.

Phase 2A would add an additional three floors to the Phase I building totaling approximately 89,500 square feet of building space.  The building height under Phase 2A would be approximately 102 feet to the top of the 8 th floor and approximately 114 feet to the top of the roof top mechanical screen.

Phase 2B would include the addition of a 9 th floor which would add approximately 29,500 square feet on top of the Phase 1 and 2A construction.  Building height under Phase 2B would be approximately 114 feet to the top of the 9 th floor and approximately 126 feet to the top of the roof top mechanical screen.  This phase would require a change to the University of Washington, Seattle 2003 Campus Master Plan.

Phase I of the facility is anticipated to open in mid 2011 with Phase 2A anticipated to open in mid 2017.
