Summertime

That wonderful annual event called summertime is once more upon us, along with all that it implies – from vacation time with the family, to pleasant outdoor activities, to an increase in our workload as we take on construction projects requiring completion before the start of the new academic year.

You don’t need me to tell you that our workload at CPO is very high now. We have a large number of complex and high priority projects we are managing that take our time and attention. Because all of you are consummate professionals, I know that you may feel tempted to yield to the pressure of meeting work commitments – often at the expense of spending time with your family and friends, and relaxing during the summer months.

However, let me encourage you to take care of yourselves. To be effective in our jobs requires that we periodically get away from work and its associated pressures. Take a week or two off in order to relax, rejuvenate, and enjoy life – and to make it a real vacation, don’t check your e-mail and voice mail while you’re gone. I urge you all to take advantage of this time of the year. Get away from it all, and enjoy yourself and your family and friends. Working with your supervisor, we can arrange for adequate coverage of critical work items while you’re gone. A good vacation can do wonders to help us feel renewed upon our return.

Have a wonderful summer – and have a SAFE summer.

Richard
